Ahead of his Saturday re-election campaign kickoff for At-Large Councilmember for the District of Columbia, Robert White has secured key endorsements from several of the region’s largest unions. White said, “I’ve worked diligently to protect and support workers in my first term, so I’m proud to have strong labor support as I launch my re-election campaign.” Union endorsements include LiUNA! Local 11, UFCW Local 400, AFSCME District Council 20, and Baltimore-DC Building Trades.
LiUNA! Local 11 Executive Director Victoria Leonard said, “We are pleased to endorse Robert White. He understands the importance of union membership and creating quality jobs for DC residents.” UFCW Local 400 Political Director Dyana Forester stated, “We are proud to support Robert White for re-election. Not only has he been present on the front lines with workers, but his track record also proves that he is committed to fighting for workers’ rights.” White recently joined the union members in rallying for a fair contract between the union and grocery retailers Giant and Safeway.
AFSCME public services employees union, is also supporting White. AFSCME District Council 20 Executive Director Andrew Washington announced the endorsement, saying, “Robert White has our full support. Throughout his first term, he has been a consistent champion for our union members.” White also gained an endorsement from the Baltimore-DC Building Trades. The union’s Executive Director, Stephen Courtien said, “We could not be more proud to support Robert White’s re-election to the DC Council. His leadership on the Council has shown to be invaluable to our members, and we are confident that he will continue to be a voice for all the hard working construction workers in the District of Columbia.”
White said, “With so many people in our city struggling to make ends meet, we have to do all we can to support the workers who make our city run both inside and outside of government. I come from a family of hard workers, so I’m proud to have the support of unions that represent some of our hardest workers in the city.”
White will formally announce his bid for re-election on Saturday, October 26th at the Thurgood Marshall Center, 1816 12th St NW, from 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.
