The primary reason that I ran for office is because I saw that our city was changing, and many groups were being left behind. We’ve been watching two DCs emerge. New residents and native Washingtonians, West of the river and East of the river, and so on. I knew I could use my experiences, both lived and professional, to ensure every District resident gets a chance to thrive.
Once elected, my main goal was to introduce bold legislation that starts to even the playing field again, using equity as the primary goal of each piece, including:
- The Financial Literacy Education in Schools Act to create a course for high school students to learn about saving, credit, and taxes, setting them up for a strong post-secondary path
- The Micro-Business Startup Fee Relief Act to encourage and support small start-up businesses by reducing fees and taxes by 75%
- The Returning Citizens Opportunity to Succeed Act to reduce barriers for returning citizens seeking housing and jobs; and
- The BEGin Act, to help working families afford quality child care and assist care providers with operating costs
Equity will always be the driving factor in my work as your representative on the DC Council, and I will continue to craft policy that can bring real change for our residents. I know that we still have more work to do.
Today, I’m asking you to join me as I seek re-election to continue this work. We are 18 days away from the Democratic Primary Election, and I need your support.
I’m grateful for your support.
